In memoriam...

This is is memory of Alaa Hassan, a journalist whom I have never met, but nonetheless a colleagure through IPS.org. Alaa was a valued Iraqi journalist who worked with Aaron Glantz in providing thoughtful insightful coverage of daily events in Iraq. Alaa was 35 years old and leaves behind a pregnant wife and greatly saddened colleagues. I will leave the details of the story to Aaron, who knew Alaa best.
IPS contributor Alaa Hassan was killed on his way to work last Wednesday. He was 35 years old. He is survived by his mother, five brothers, five sisters and his wife who is pregnant with their first child.
